Requirements for Kulangsu International Young Artist Residents
Kulangsu International Young Artist-in-Residence Program, Phase I: Art Awakens Kulangsu 's Architectural Heritage
The theme for Phase I is: How to revitalize a deserted courtyard in Kulangsu. With this theme, the creative background is that there is an ancient turret site in Kulangsu, the Yanwei Mountain Park. At present, the fort site has been restored and included in the list of World Heritage Sites for Conservation. However, based on the requirements of environmental development and official governance, the old Fortress Warehouse associated with the Fortress Site has not been effectively restored. This program will invite artists to visit and reside in this warehouse, and reactivate the vitality of the undeveloped site by means of artistic interventions such as performances, music, paintings, videos, and poetry.
Some of these artistic products will be selected to become a part of Kulangsu’s cultural and artistic collection. This collection will be grown over the years and over time, the accumulated collection will serve as basis for Kulangsu to become a new nucleus of international art interactions.
Participating young artist residents will produce at least one piece of work in the form of a/an video, image, text, design work, installation, sculpture, new media art, or of any other eclectic form. Foreign artists can have their works published on external websites.
